It "sees" ch 13. I had bought this new one because I figured that I needed to have a spare on board and because in some of the countries we have visited things like this are impossible or hard to find.

The WiFi adapter that I bought 5 years ago is not made anymore and definitely does not see ch 13.

I ran into a little different problem after I got the new one connected. Seems as though the marina WiFi system has some ports disabled. We use "Airmail" software to send and receive email while connected to the SSB radio. Airmail also has a Telnet feature that uses ports 8772, 50 and 50001 to connect when we have Internet. The marina WiFi system apparently has these ports disabled. Not a big deal at this point but it prevents me from downloading winlink and sailmail emails via Telnet with Airmail.

Other than that, not much happening.

BRCW Bill Rousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13136157610605784706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2151800050737906706.post-41993726506853961782011-09-14T21:23:25.896+01:002011-09-14T21:23:25.896+01:00802.11 wifi is devided into 13 channels each 22 Mh...802.11 wifi is devided into 13 channels each 22 Mhz wide. They are spaced apart and most overlap. So you can be on channel 6 and pick up and communicate with a device on channel 7. Due to the wave size and the distribution there are 4 channels that do not overlap (1, 5, 9 and 13).

I know many intel wifi devices for some reason have channel 13 disabled for some reason. The most logical reason is channel 13 is not permitted for use in the US.

I do not know if there is a firmware or software setting to enable channel 13 on these intel devices or not.

Lastly, Japan opted to add a 14th channel above the normal wifi space, so if you are ever in Japan, you might have to buy a japanese wifi adapter. The good new is, they work universally (at least for now).Atanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15373535831207556330noreply@blogger.com
